The start of a new year usually comes with a lot of talk about goals, roadmaps, and big plans. It can be easy to get caught up in the performative version of that, so at Uptech Studio we approach resolutions a little differently. Less about bold declarations, more about reinforcing the things that actually work—especially in partnership with the teams we build alongside.

As we come up with resolutions, we keep coming back to this:
In practice, that means being disciplined about scope and honest about trade-offs. Most of the successful projects we’ve been a part of didn’t start with a massive roadmap of features—they started with a focused problem and a willingness to learn quickly.
With our partners, that often looks like:
It’s not about moving slower. It’s about avoiding wasting time (and budget). One of the ways that we do this is by setting OKRs with our partners.
There are a number of frameworks for setting goals, and we’re fans of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). In fact we use OKRs both internally at Uptech Studio and with our partners to make sure we are focused on the right things. The idea is to articulate the broad aim as a qualitative objective, then pair that with one or more quantitative key results. That combo gives people something big to rally around (the objective) and a way to measure success (key results).

If you're interested in learning more about OKRs, there are endless resources available online, but here are a couple of note:
We won’t pretend to know what the year will bring. The industry is very good at predictions and not very good at accuracy.
What we do know is this: the work that matters rarely comes from doing more. It comes from clarity, focus, and good partnerships built on shared goals.
Thanks for continuing to build with us.
