Why Metrics Matter More Than Ever

There’s been a lot of noise lately about how AI is speeding up software development — faster code, faster designs, faster launches. But speed only helps if you know where you’re going. You still need to keep track of how your users are using your product.

That’s why we encourage our partners to take metrics seriously on all our projects — not just dropping them into the app, but using them on a consistent basis to guide what to build, what to fix, and where to double down.

Spotlight: Turning Metrics into Momentum

One of the ways we support our partners at Uptech Studio is by setting up a regular Product & Growth Review to help them make sense of their business metrics, and more importantly, how to act on them.

Not just by handing over a dashboard, but by meeting regularly to dig into what’s really going on, and figuring out together where to focus next. We pull in data from sources like the app stores, marketing campaigns, revenue data, and product analytics into a set of slides that we review as a team.

We typically review five key areas:

  • Acquisition – Are we bringing in new users effectively?
  • Activation – Are users completing onboarding and finding value quickly?
  • Conversion – Are users upgrading or monetizing as expected?
  • Engagement – Are they using key features regularly?
  • Retention – Are we keeping users coming back?

Each session includes data trends, initiative updates, and clear next steps to drive progress. It’s a mix of analysis, insight, and accountability — the kind of rhythm that helps teams unlock the growth that’s already inside their product.

Tool Spotlight: Amplitude

If you're trying to get a clearer picture of how users engage with your product (and what drives them to stick around) Amplitude is one of the most powerful tools out there.

Amplitude is a product analytics platform built to help teams understand user behavior. It lets you define custom events, build funnels, analyze retention, and explore behavioral cohorts — all without needing to write SQL. The interface is flexible enough for deeper analysis, but intuitive enough for non-technical team members to use effectively.

One of its biggest strengths is how well it supports ongoing product work. You can create dashboards that map to real business goals, set up alerts for unexpected shifts, and track the impact of changes over time. Tools like Journeys and Pathfinder help visualize how users navigate your product, making it easier to spot friction points and optimization opportunities.

The catch? You still need to set it up intentionally. Without a clear event strategy, the data can get messy fast. But when implemented well, Amplitude becomes more than just a reporting tool — it becomes part of your weekly operating rhythm.

We’ve worked with several teams to design their tracking plans, get clean data into Amplitude, and then actually use it in decision-making. The result? Better clarity, faster iteration, and more confident product bets.
